Calling All Dreamers

Standard

Good morning lovely people,

I’m coming to you live from Indianapolis, here on the Westside, at my job, at my desk…Yep, it’s as boring as it sounds, lol. Such a shame that I’m here in the middle of my work day, daydreaming about what I want to be when I grow up. Yes, never mind the fact that I’m 41 years old, I have two almost adult children, I’ve been married and divorced, and I work a full-time job as a pharmacy technician. But that’s not my dream job, I mean it pays the bills, barely, but I have a dream of being my own boss one day. Seriously, I know that sounds like most Americans, but really folks, I think I deserve it after all of these years. I mean considering that I didn’t finish college and I’ve been a single mom for years before I got married. I have worked hard all my adult life starting at 14 and I’ve been in so many different lines of work I can’t even count all of the jobs I’ve had. I mean I could try but it would be hilarious and a bit embarrassing. Too bad I couldn’t get college credit for every different job I’ve had. I’ve worked as a waitress, in clothing stores, in hospitals, in drugstores, in the manufacturing field (making airplane engines and the automobile industry believe or not). I mean, I’m not flighty or unable to hold down a job, but I’m a jack-of-all-trades, really, if you teach me something once, I’ll pick it up quickly and I’ll be the best at it. But, with being a single mom for so many years, I went wherever the best paying job with the best health insurance would have me.

So with that being said, I’ve learned over the years, that I’m very creative and I can learn just about anything. I would like to take that gift and use it to my own advantage. I love baking, sewing, and quilting, and I would love to own my own rustic little shop where I can do all of these things all day and get paid for it. Sounds great!!! One day, I’ll make it happen. Don’t mind me, just rambling on, hoping and wishing, and dreaming.

You all have a great day,

#GodFirstAllGoodThingsWillFollow

God’s grace is sufficient Gym day 6 again!

Standard

Good evening lovely people,

If you didn’t catch that, I didn’t make it to the gym yesterday. Yes, I was all ready to go and then I got a flat tire in our wonderful Indiana snow. Due to my brilliant driving skills in inclement weather I ran into a curb, but thankfully, the air slowly released from the tire and it didn’t completely go flat until I got off of the highway. So after waiting almost 3 hours for AAA who they were too busy to show up, my wonderful stepfather and brother had my tire changed and had me back on the road, but far too late to go to the gym. But, I definitely made it today. And it felt good. Me and the kiddo got our cardio and strength training end. Then I went home and made another delicious smoothie.
Mango/Strawberry Smoothie:

1 cup of Oatmeal
1 cup of spinach
1 cup of sliced strawberries
1 cup of sliced mango
1 cup organic 2% milk
1/2 cup organic plain low fat yogurt
1 whole banana
Honey to taste, about 1 Tbs

I tasted it first without the banana and it was very bland, so since I love banana I threw it end and it was delish!

You really can throw any fruit or vegetable in a blender and mix it with healthy stuff like oatmeal or whey powder, or I’ve heard people use chia seeds, but I haven’t tried that yet. It’s on my list to try and I’ll let you know.

I’m also doing this #30DYC (yoga challenge) on Instagram. You can find me @ValleyDlights. It’s just each day a group of yogis post one pose a day and you copy that pose and snap a pic and post it. It’s pretty cool, because I really wanted to take some yoga classes, so I’ll see how this challenge works out.

So, goodnight, I’m exhausted, you know, end of the week, and all that.

Weekend projects

Standard

Good Morning lovely people,

I hope that everyone is having a truly splendid day! I have a couple of things to show you from this past weekend that I was able to bust out on my faithful sewing machine. I had a wonderfully productive weekend, even through a lazy Saturday, a sad attempt at playing softball on Sunday and a splendid migraine on Monday. But I persevered and I made 5 children’s aprons, made from old blue jeans that I found in my closet that I had been holding on to for dear life and hoping that I would be able to fit into again one day. But, don’t dismay, I haven’t given up the fight. The weather here in Indy will settle down one day and Spring will be here permanently soon. Or knowing Indiana weather it will probably go straight to summer, from 30 to 90 degrees in one day. Either way it makes for very unpredictable wardrobe changes, but I digress. I’ll be out in the great weather and working on my fitness, very soon. NO MORE EXCUSES!!!

So I did some alterations for some coworkers. I hemmed a blouse that was too long for a friend and I turned some boot-legged jeans into skinny jeans for another friend.

They turned out great. And then I busted out those aprons, from my fabric stash and old jeans:

Then I promised another coworker I would make her baby a quilt (she’s on Baby #3). It was made from fabric leftover from my pinwheel quilt that I made for last month and some white fur fabric that I found at Value World. Don’t worry I pre-washed that furry fabric AND washed the quilt after I was done. It turned out pretty cute. It wasn’t too extravagant, just some 4 inch blocks and some 2.5 inch x WOF strips along the outside to make it a little bigger. And instead of making additional binding, I just wrapped the furry fabric over the edge to the top and used that as binding. I also added a ribbon and added a little furry toy that I bought (brand new from Target) for the baby to play with or Mommie could use the loop to hang the blanket on something. I was surprised how super easy it is in making a much smaller quilt than the one I made last month and I was able to quilt the whole thing on my sewing machine (no quilting as I go, this time).

So, I’m hoping to learn different techniques as I go. I would also like to bust out more quilts. I have found a ton of quilts I would like to try on http://www.modabakeshop.com. I LOVE THAT SITE!!!

So I’m keeping with the 1 quilt a month so far, but I’m terrified to try that tie quilt. I’m still bouncing around some ideas for the blocks that won’t be too difficult.

Anywho, have a super blessed day!!

And if you’re here in Indy, stay out of the rain, snow, sleet, heat, flood, or whatever it is for the day

In case you’re wondering,

It’s ‘Oh my goodness, thank God it’s finished!!!’

I mean, this has been a lot harder than I thought! I have learned a great deal while sewing this quilt. And I so greatly appreciate the tutorial from http://www.modabakeshop.com here’s the link:

http://www.modabakeshop.com/2012/07/vintage-modern-pinwheels-quilt.html?m=1
So here’s my version:

20130324-172352.jpg

20130324-172404.jpg

Of course it doesn’t look the same because I had some issues with my blocks not coming out the same size. (Such a newbie, lol) I also bought a new flat sheet in a pretty powder blue to make the backing and the binding, which was not part of the tutorial, but I wanted to try it. So I just basted it and quilted and cut down the flat sheet down to 2″ all the way around and then folded and sewed it over around the entire quilt. About the easiest part of the quilt. Although the tutorial was very clear and easy. Now I know what they meant when they listed it as a ‘moderate’.

But overall it turned out pretty cute for my third quilt. I love it and I got done within my one month time frame. Thanks Moda Bakeshop!!!

Luck of the Irish, to ya

Good Sunday funday,

Seriously I have not fell off the face of the earth. I’ve really been trying to finish this quilt for March. And every new step I’ve learned I’ve been scared to try a new technique. So, I’ve sewn all of my 25 blocks for my pinwheel block and now I’m going to try the ‘quilt as you go’ method. And I’ve read several tutorials but I just don’t understand them so, like most things that I learn, I’m going to wing it and see how it goes. Crazy I know but that’s the only adventure that I’ve seen in my life in the past few months so I’m going to go with it. I figured I’ll try stippling, a free-motion quilting technique and quilt each block with the batting, leaving the pinwheel unquilted, so that I might quilt each pinwheel when I put the backing on. I haven’t decided if I want to put sashing in between each block or just sew the blocks together like the original pattern. I want the pinwheels to really stand out so I might go with the same color for the sashing. And I didn’t tell you that I messed up the original blocks somehow, I don’t know if it was my seam allowance (1/4″ or scant 1/4″) or if I just cut the strips from the fat quarters wrong. Anyway, I just cut them all with a 12″ square block and they’re fine now. Still pretty darn cute though

20130317-145755.jpg

And this is how my stippling went, yes still pretty darn cute, as well

So, I have 1 down 24 more to go and just 2 weeks left, we’ll see!!

Wish me the Luck of the Irish,

Have a blessed one

A Peek Into The Life

Standard

Howdy folks!!

Well, yes I’m making progress on my pinwheel quilt. I made an executive decision to go with the gray and I think I made the right choice. What do you think?

20130305-090648.jpg

20130305-090707.jpg

I’m kinda loving the gray!!!

So meanwhile I haven’t heard anything back about my promotion, but….if I don’t get it. I know that The Lord has bigger and better plans for me and my family.

So here I am, here at work on break and getting through the daily routine of sitting at my computer and helping to make people’s lives a little more comfortable by doing my job accurately and proficiently. Hey, I’m doing my part no matter how great or small. But let me share with you what helps get me through the day. I have my wonderful IPhone and I listen to music, books, the Bible, and sermons all day. I listen to a wide variety of music, from Needtobreathe, Cee Lo Green, Jason Mraz, Fun., Miranda Lambert, Pink, Adele, Beyonce, Dixie Chicks, Amos Lee, Punch Brothers, Third Day, Josh Turner, Queen, and everyone in between, all with my Rhapsody app. I LOVE music!!

As far as my book selection that I listen to with my Audible.com app; I love anything from Francine Rivers. I love Christian fiction, classics, and Ancient Greek and Roman history, as it pertains to Christian history.

I listen to the Bible on my YouVersion app and I listen to sermons from my local church at Lakeview and I adore listening to sermons from John McArthur in California, with my GracetoYou app.

So, yep, you guessed it, I would be lost without my phone during the day. And you might think it would distract me, but no, it actually makes me more productive!

Then, by the time I clock out for the day it’s all about my kids. I LOVE those girls like, like, well, I don’t what to compare it to. They’re only second to my love of The Lord. Not to get all mushy😘
And you’ll read about them in future posts and I’ll talk about them like they’re little kids, but they’re taller than me and almost grown, 14 & 21. Yeah that 21 year old is not grown until she finishes college and is on her own.

So that’s my day for the most part and then I try to throw some baking, sewing, and quilting in there, hahaha…to the best of my superhuman abilities

Good morning and god bless

And Sew It Continues

Standard

Good evening mates,

Here it is, a quarter to midnight and I’m still at my machine, trying to finish the 100 blocks that are needed for this “Vintage Modern Pinwheel” quilt that I’m making. I already know I’m going to love this quilt. I love the colors and the prints from this line of Annette Tatum “Tailored” collection. It reminds me of a sophisticated, afternoon tea with the ladies from the Bridge club. Hahaha, just kidding, I have no idea what that would be like, since I don’t think I’m quite at that age to be in a bridge club, drinking tea with gray-haired ladies. But, I’m halfway there. I’ve already started with the gray hair and I love it!! I’m probably the only woman that I know that’s looking forward to a full head of gray hair. Hey, what can I say, it makes me think of wisdom and sophistication, and saying whatever’s on your mind and getting away with it😆

Here’s my progress so far:

I haven’t decided what color fabric to make my pinwheel, because I want my pinwheels to stand out. I have this beautiful gray fabric that I was going to use for my tie quilt.

20130302-235806.jpg

Or this really cute white Easter fabric with little crosses that I wasn’t quite sure what I was going to use it for, I just like it.

What do you think white or gray?????

Here’s the original quilt that I’m basing my quilt from, just to get an idea. It’s from http://www.modabakeshop.com which I simply adore their site!! Thanks for the tutorial!!

Anyway, back to my machine.

God bless and goodnight
